BAGHDAD - Iraq has given permission for Russia to attack targets that allegedly belonged to ISIS in its border regions. This decision comes just days after the envoy United States (US) government sought assurances from Baghdad not to allow Russian jets to conduct operations in Iraq.
Head of the Security and Defence Iraqi Parliament, Hakem al-Zamli said the attack would weaken ISIS to cut off the supply route to Syria. Even so, the attack is not known when it will be done, as quoted by Russia Today from Anadolu News Agency, a government media group in Turkey, Sunday (25/10/2015).
Russia itself admitted keen to weaken the supply route to the terrorist groups inside Syria. Russian jets have been hundreds of times bombarded a number of targets belonging to ISIS and Syrian rebel factions.
Earlier, US General Joseph Dunford made a visit to Iraq on Tuesday (10/20/2015). This was done to get assurance from the Iraqi government that the Russians are not going to conduct operations against ISIS bases in Iraq.
