JAKARTA - The government of the United States (US), through their Indonesian Ambassador Robert O. Blake Jr. has just released a package of aid to help the Indonesian government overcome the disaster haze from forest fires. Aid package with a value of USD 2.75 million will be divided into several forms of assistance.
"This grant is part of a wider effort the US to support Indonesia in order to reduce forest fires and to mitigate their effects on human health, as well as to support the Indonesian Government's efforts to prevent forest fires in the future," Blake said in a written statement received Sindonews on Monday (26/10).
In the statement, Blake said, the assistance includes funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and will be aimed to assist the Government of Indonesia to add health facilities, to treat patients with respiratory disorders caused by the smoke.
The fund, said Blake, will be given in the areas of USAID's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) through the American Red Cross to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
"Providing equipment and protective equipment for fire-fighting crews in the province worst hit by forest fires, especially in Central Kalimantan," he continued. Then, a team of technical advisors to support the US Forest Service who arrived in Indonesia this week to provide guidance for how to cope with forest fires.
The team, said Blake will also bring protective clothing for firefighters, and help coordinate operations, remote sensing, and imaging efforts of forest fires.
