JAKARTA - A Cathay Pacific aircraft that actual route from Australia to Hong Kong was forced to be transferred to Bali after one of the engines reportedly caught fire.
Witnesses said there was a loud explosion and the fire put out. CX170 Cathay Pacific aircraft flying at an altitude of 36 thousand feet when the engine number two reported defects.
"There were sparks flying out of the motor (aircraft engines)," said passenger plane, Joel Sirna told 6PR newscasters, Gary Adshead, as cited by the West Australian, Friday (09/25/2015).
CX170 flight departing from Perth, Australia, just before midnight local time and was scheduled to land in Hong Kong at 07:40 on Friday.
"In the middle of the flight, we heard a loud explosion and the aircraft began to vibrate, all the lights went out and I looked out the window and just saw some fire and some sparks out. The wings and the motor burned out, "said Sirna.
Airplane pilot announced that one engine had stopped working. "There are some people who quite shaken. The girl next to me started to panic and cry, so I just tried to calm everyone. That's what we have to do, "he said.
Captain pilot then made the decision to divert to the nearest airport. Airbus A330 type aircraft finally landed safely in Denpasar, Bali.
